We take a thoughtful, deliberate approach to therapy—focusing on root causes rather than quick fixes. Our work together is designed to create real, lasting change, not just short-term relief.
It all starts with a free consultation, giving you a chance to meet with Dr. Shields and ensure a strong fit. From there, we begin with an in-depth intake assessment to get a full picture of your history, current challenges, and priorities for the future. This includes your health, relationships, sociocultural background, cognitive and emotional patterns, spiritual beliefs, and anything else that shapes your experience.
With this foundation in place, we collaborate to build a personalized, evidence-based treatment plan—developing clear, actionable goals and choosing the right approach to help you get there. Along the way, we make sure you understand the why behind your treatment and gain the skills to apply what you’re learning independently—so therapy doesn’t become a never-ending cycle of “problem of the week” sessions.
As treatment progresses, we check in regularly, adjusting our plan as needed to keep you moving toward meaningful, sustainable growth.
